There are four types of Crew Training Manuals:

Training Booklet: when used, provides instant training on a vehicle’s entire crew. These don’t provide much experience at 20,000 per crew member. They are received for free when earning a Reward for Merit (free drops when playing tier V through X tanks).

Training Guide: when used, provides instant training on a vehicle’s entire crew. These provide a substantial amount of experience at 100,000 per crew member. These are also earned as a result of a Reward for Merit (tier V through tier X tanks).

Training Manual: when used, provides instant training on the specified vehicle’s entire crew. These provide a large amount of experience per crew member at 250,000 each. These can be earned through special events (rare). More commonly, these are purchased through the depot at a cost of 2,000,000 credits per manual. In my opinion, these are well worth the 2,000,000 credits as you can essentially boost the crew’s experience of any take you wish. To earn 250,000 experience on a specific tank would take a substantial amount of gameplay. These are a bargain at 2,000,000 credits, especially when you consider how easy it is to earn credits these days.

Personal Training Manual: when used, provides instant training on a single crew member of your choice. This produces a huge amount of experience at 850,000 given to the designated crew member. These cannot be purchased and are earned through rare in-game events. When I use these, I always choose the Commander as the recipient as Sixth Sense and Recon and Jack of All Trades are extremely important to the overall effectiveness of the Commander’s contribution to crew members and the tank itself. And if you already have all 3 of those skills, Brothers In Arms produces substantial benefits as well (but you must have the entire crew with 100% Brothers In Arms to produce any benefit.) Another handy skill is Mentor, but that’s usually one of the last skills I give to my Commander at around the 6th or 7th assigned skill.

Booklets, Guides and Training Manuals do have restrictions. They can only be used on vehicles of the indicated nation. All crew members must already have 100% training on the vehicle (the basic operation of the tank itself). The crew members must be training specifically on the designated tank (example: if you have a premium tank that uses the crew of a standard tank, the manuals will only work when the crew is inside the tank they are trained to operate. This is almost always the standard tank as the entire point of a premium tank is its ability to use crew members that aren’t specifically trained for the premium tank).

Personal Training Manuals are not restricted. You can freely assign 850,000 experience to any crew member of any tank of any nation.
