Not too fast, not too slow. Much more armor than a light tank, but not quite capable of running with the heavies. The medium tank embodies the middle-of-the-road when it comes to WOT tanks. As with light tanks, medium tanks have primarily two types of play style: scouting or damage dealing.

Medium tank “scouts” – setting up your medium tank as a scout requires maximizing your view range and concealment rating. You’re essentially taking the role of a scout but with limited mobility. There will be plenty of games where neither team has light tanks, and when this happens, medium tanks will have to assist their teammates by spotting enemy tanks. This is where a scouting medium comes into play. You’ll mostly want to focus on passive-style scouting as active scouting in a medium is extremely dangerous. So, that means a high concealment rating by choosing Concealment for your crew’s first skill and by purchasing a camouflage net.

Medium tank damage dealers – buy a Gun Rammer! With this type of tank, you need a fast reload more than anything, and that comes with purchasing a Gun Rammer and by either having Brothers In Arms as your first perk for each crew member (decreases reload time, improves aim, etc.) or by simply having a highly trained crew with 5 or more skills/perks. The better the crew, the quicker the reload and the more accurate your tank becomes.

Medium tanks play an important role in the game. They should adjust to the game as needs are required. If your scouts (light tanks) get wiped out right away, a medium needs to take over the role of scouting for the rest of the team. Does the map look unbalanced? Did your teammates mostly deploy to one side of the map and leave a large section of it unchallenged? Well, as a medium, you should alter your direction and head over to that section of the map to see if the enemy is there.

Mediums should stick together. Facing off against a pack of medium tanks is a difficult encounter to survive as they can quickly surround and overwhelm an enemy in seconds. If you’re a medium, stick with the other mediums. Go where they go. Support them and move with them when they move. That’s your best chance of survival, and your best chance at winning the game as a medium-tank player.
