Every map has specific types of terrain suited to each type of tank. For the heavy tank, this means the city, or anywhere that has limited-view terrain that forces close-combat situations. Heavies work best in this environment. As a heavy-tank operator, you need to head directly to those types of locations the moment the game starts.

As a heavy-tank player, your job is to stop the enemy from advancing through the city (or otherwise similar location). Block them, destroy them, slow them down. That’s the name of your game. Elsewhere on the map your teammates are doing their thing, and your job is to give them time by holding the enemy heavy tanks at a standstill or by breaking through their heavy line and destroying them altogether.

When it comes to equipment, choose items that increase your survivability. That means increasing overall hit points, making modules resistant to damage, or decreasing potential damage to crew members. Oh, and improving your tracks is also important. You don’t want them getting disabled for long periods of time when playing a heavy tank.

Some heavy tanks are designed for spear pointing and pushing through an enemy line. These types of tanks will have high armor on the front of the tank and very few (if any) weak points from the front. Side and rear armor will often be much weaker, but that comes with the territory of this type of tank.

Other types of heavy tanks fall into the support category. They can’t withstand shells hitting their front as well as the previously mentioned heavy tanks. Support heavies should cluster together behind the heavies at the front with the best armor.

Despite what many players will scream about during the game, sniping heavy tanks do exist. Mostly this is a result of match making. If you’re a heavy that is low tier or bottom tier within a game, you can’t be front and center against the enemy heavies or you’ll get destroyed in quick fashion. You must hang back and support the other heavies with sniping. Or possibly go run with the medium tanks.

Sixth Sense is not required for a heavy tank, as least not in the early stages of a game. Assume you are spotted when playing in the city. It’s that simple. Focus your crew member abilities to maximize tank mobility and/or damage (Designated Target, Dead Eye, Clutch Braking).
