Tank Destroyers
Now in paperback! |
To successfully play a TD, you need to focus on your camouflage ability. High Concealment rating means you can park behind a bush or tree line and safely shoot the enemy across the map without much risk to getting shot yourself. With the exception of a few TDs (such as the JPZ E-100), Concealment Rating is a top priority. That and a Gun Rammer. Those two pieces of gear are necessary. The third piece of equipment would either be binoculars or vents.
Playing a TD is a simple enough style of gameplay: hide and shoot. That’s it. For this reason, TD players are often ridiculed as being lazy or inept. But the fact is, they need to stay far away and snipe. Their tanks do not have the mobility other tanks have. If they get caught in a close-combat situation with an opposing enemy tank that has high mobility, they’re as good as dead.
While sniping is their primary role, it must be said that TD players need to know when to move up. If your heavy tanks clear the city, then you need to follow behind them through the city as they move toward the next encounter area. Sometimes it’s necessary for a TD to enter the city before it’s cleared as this can produce a significant edge for the heavy players. One extra gun – especially a big one as likely found on a TD – can make all the difference in winning an encounter.
